Mechanical Behavior of Salt VIII

The Organizing Committee, along with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T), is pleased to announce the Mechanical Behavior of Salt VIII conference (“SALT MECH 8”).  The conference will be held on May 26-28, 2015 at the campus of SDSM&T in Rapid City, South Dakota, USA.

The Eighth Conference on the Mechanical Behavior of Salt continues a long-lasting tradition started back in 1981 at Pennsylvania State University, USA.  The objective of the conference is to bring together the expertise of various engineers and scientists involved in the study of the constitutive thermomechanical behavior of salt while providing an opportunity to review recent developments in a rapidly expanding field of interest.  The general topics of the conference will include the following:

  • Research and management of underground structures in salt formations
  • State-of-the-art on applications of salt mechanics in mines and caverns for hydrocarbon storage, radioactive waste disposal, and toxic waste disposal
  • Laboratory experiments
  • Constitutive/numerical modeling
  • Field investigations
  • Creep, damage, thermal-hydrological-mechanical-chemical (THMC) coupled effects
  • Case studies
