Your partner in the field of salt mechanics

The Institut für Gebirgsmechanik (IfG) is an engineering service provider specialising in rock mechanics challenges in mining.

Our clients operate across traditional potash and rock salt mining, storage and solution mining, as well as underground utilisation, disposal and repository projects. Drawing on extensive expertise and site-specific knowledge—often built up over decades—we deliver practical, client-focused solutions, even for complex challenges. To prepare approval-ready rock mechanics analyses and expert recommendations, we combine hands-on investigation methods, such as underground in situ measurements and material testing in our rock mechanics laboratory, with advanced numerical modelling for condition assessment and forecasting.

In addition, we collaborate with national and international partners on a wide range of research and development projects, continuously strengthening and advancing our engineering capabilities.
